The
best bar bar none?
The Merchants Arms is a small but
attractive ale house. By keeping its two atmospheric rooms
intact, we ensured that this superb little pub did not succumb
to the dull, open-plan feel of many city bars. It also helped
us win CAMRA’s award for the best refurbished city pub
a few years back.
There is plenty to appeal to the beer
drinker in the front bar, while the back room occasionally
provides the setting for impromptu sea shanties and folk music.
Once you’ve experienced The Merchants Arms, like most
people, you’ll go back time and again. |

Given its proximity to the harbour,
it’s apt that The Merchants is on an island (albeit
surrounded by roads not water). There’s a car park at
the rear, so escape the current of the Hotwells one-way system
and pop in.
